Last week I had lunch at the all new CAET Seafood and Oysterette at the Renaissance in Ridgeland, MS with some pretty dope Attorney’s.
The seafood restaurant which use to be located in the historic Fondren area of Jackson, moved into the space where the old Seafood R’evolution was once located.
It was two days before Christmas and even though they were busy, the staff was still efficient and friendly. While we waited for a table to become available, they continued to ask if we were okay. I can appreciate that! After a little bit of a wait we were seated.
The menu seems to have changed a bit (in a good way!) I ordered the fried catfish, with fried green tomatoes & mac and cheese.
It was A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!!!! The only thing I was missing was some blackburn syrup or jam for my biscuit. #SouthernGirl
After we ate and drank ourselves merry, we decided to take a couple of pic’s outside just because…
Hey girl hey! As we prepare to say goodbye to 2019 and embrace everything that 2020 has to offer, I want to encourage you to follow the words in Matthew 5:16 “Let you light so shine before men; that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in heaven.”
As I write this, I’m encouraging myself as well. See, I was one of those ladies who would dim their own light so that people attached to her light could shine brighter. See, we do that so that they don’t feel insecure or inadequate, but it leaves us unfulfilled and bound in chains. Chains of depression, emptiness, loneliness, bitterness, and the list goes on… But today those chains are coming off!!! I’ve made a decision that NO MORE! No more dimming my own light so that someone else’s light can shine brighter. No more playing small so that someone else can feel big. Every gift, every talent, every dream that God has placed on the inside of me I WILL SHINE the light on it and He will get the glory!
Back in the day when I song in the youth choir at our church on 99th Crandon in Chicago we use to sing this song called “This Little Light Of Mine.” It took its words from Matthew 5:16:
This Little Light Of Mine, I’m gonna let it shine, This Little Light Of Mine, I’m gonna let it shine, This Little Light Of Mine, Yes, I’m gonna let it shine, Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine
We use to sing that song with so much passion and innocence as kids. If you’re like me, as you got older, life began to happen, and those words began to fade, but God!
Girl, now it’s time to do the work.. It’s time to study more, to pray more, to fast more, and to apply Biblical principles to our lives so that we can come out of the shadows and into the light and be the women that God called us to be! In the words of my girl Ciara, it’s time to “Level Up!”
Harry and Meghan aka the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have shared a new pic of baby Archie as they recap 2019 and send well wishes to their followers for the new year.
In a video posted to their Instagram account, the Royal couple shared some of their biggest moments of 2019, and snuck in a new pic of baby Archie with his dad Prince Harry (both wearing a wool hat and coat) backed behind Coldplay’s single “Clock”
“Wishing you all a very Happy New Year and thanking you for your continued support, the caption to the video reads. We’ve loved meeting so many of you from around the world and can’t wait to meet many more of you next year. We hope 2020 brings each of you health and continued happiness. – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.”
I was already a Kevin Hart fan, but after watching his new Netflix documentary “Don’t F___ This Up!” I’ve gained a greater respect for the star.
The doc doesn’t focus so much on his stand up as it does his personal life and how he’s overcome adversity.
Kevin opens up about growing up in the hood of Philly, his father being on drugs and his mother being a single parent giving him structure and discipline that he would use to guide his journey to stardom.
In the six part series, Kevin deals with it all.. From the cheating to the Oscar scandal. One thing about Hart is that he owns his mess ups! He doesn’t attempt to lie his way out of it.. He simply says,”I did it! I messed up.” He apologizes to the folks that he hurt, and then he moves on. He doesn’t allow anyone to hold him hostage to his past.. For me, that’s refreshing.
Then there’s the “Plastic Cup Boyz,” who are his loyal circle of friends, and accountability partners. All I can say is everybody needs a crew like the Plastic Cup Boyz! They hold Kevin accountable when he messes up, while holding him up.
“You can’t buy loyalty!”- Kevin Hart
During the doc, he was in the middle of promoting his movie Night School with Tiffany Haddish (the first film under his Hart Productions umbrella), his stand up tour, which the Plastic Cup Boys are his opening acts, his deal with Nike, and Chase Bank. Exhausting right? Well, not for Hart. He goes non stop… and makes sure to credit his team with helping to make his dreams come true.
“You can’t do it by yourself, you put people in a position to make you better for a reason. When you don’t let them do their jobs by being the defiant one, you kinda going against yourself.” – Kevin Hart
Then there is his interaction with his wife, his kids and his father. It’s obvious when you see them all together that “home” is truly where his HEART is.
King James aka LeBron James has been named the Associated Press (AP) Male Athlete of the Decade!
The AP made the announcement on Sunday the day before the NBA stars 35th birthday, listing some major moves the kid from Akron, Ohio has made over the last 10 years.
He left Cleveland for Miami, finally became a champion, went back to his beloved northeast Ohio, delivered on another title promise, then left for the Los Angeles Lakers and the next challenge. He played in eight straight finals. No NBA player won more games or more MVP awards over the last 10 years than he did. He started a school.
He married his high school sweetheart, Savannah James and they have three amazing kids. Their sons Bryce and LeBron Jr. (Bronny) seem to be following in his father’s footsteps, and their daughter Zhuri is launching her own YouTube lifestyle channel at the beginning of the year.
Dr. Tony Evans announced on Monday that his wife, Lois Evans has watched her first sunrise from heaven.
“Just before the sun came up this morning, the love of my life, Lois Irene Evans, transitioned from earth and watched her first sunrise from heaven, the senior Pastor of OakCliff Bible church wrote on his social media accounts.
He also shared that he along with the couples four children were by her side as she made her transition.
“I had the privilege of holding her hand as she was lulled into eternity. Our four children surrounded her as well. As she slipped away, we told her how much we love her, how proud we are of her, and how thankful we are for the life she has lived.”
The Evans family matriarch had been battling biliary cancer.
Dr. Evans wrote that his wife exceeded the doctors’ expectations and that their prayers were answered since she is no longer suffering.
“Lois lived beyond medical expectations, not once, but over and over again. God has been so kind to give us more time to make wonderful memories.”
“Thank you for your continued prayers for our family as we grieve, and also for your patience as we finalize our plans to honor her life.”
The Associated Press has solidified Serena Williams as the G.O.A.T!
On Saturday the publication named her Female Athlete of the Decade, after she dominated on and off the tennis court for the last decade.
From all the Grand Slam titles, business ventures with Nike and Lincoln to name a few, the birth of her daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian, Jr., her star studded Disney themed wedding (that brought her entire squad including, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Kim Kardashian and Ciara) to Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian Sr.
Then returning to tennis after giving birth and dealing with a health scare, and who can forget her Super Bowl ad that sent a message to the world about women’s empowerment. Wait and I can’t forget her wedding slay for friend, Meghan Markle’s nuptials to Prince Harry. Serena has owned the last 10 years!
While we were all opening Christmas gifts and celebrating the birth of Jesus, Kanye West dropped a new album.
“Jesus Is Born” features the Sunday Service Choir and choir director Jason White, just like his groundbreaking Jesus Is King album.
The album is a little over and hour, with 19 songs including, Souls Anchored, Total Praise, Balm In Gilead, his remix of the SWV classic, Weak and the Clark Sisters hit single Sunshine to name a few.
“Now that I’m in service to Christ, my job is to spread the Gospel, to let people know what Jesus has done for me,” Kanye said previously about how his life had been transformed as a result of accepting Jesus.
“I’ve spread a lot of things. There was a time I was letting you know what high fashion had done for me, I was letting you know what the Hennessey had done for me, but now I’m letting you know what Jesus has done for me. And in that I’m no longer a slave. I’m a son now, a son of God. I’m free.”
The stoicism and grace she has shown in becoming an advocate for survivors — herself included — and an agent for change in the wake of the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal that’s shaken USA Gymnastics to its core? The byproduct of a conscious decision to embrace the immense clout she carries.
“I realize now with the platform I have it will be powerful if I speak up and speak for what I believe in,” Biles told The Associated Press. “It’s an honor to speak for those that are less fortunate. So if I can be a voice for them in a positive manner, then of course I’m going to do whatever I can.”
And it’s that mission — combined with her otherworldly skill and boundless charisma — that’s enabled Biles to keep gymnastics in the spotlight, a rarity for a sport that typically retreats into the background once the Olympic flame goes out. She is the first gymnast to be named AP Female Athlete of the Year twice and the first to do it in a non-Olympic year.
