PhotoShoot Quarantine Style To Celebrate My Birthday

Hey girl hey! I turn 48 on July 1st and decided to have a quick photoshoot to celebrate freedom and going to the next level in Christ!

My beautician (Tuwania Levy) not only does she keep my hair healthy, she makes sure I stay fly!

When I went to get my hair washed Saturday morning for the shoot, she showed me some of her new pieces that came in for her clothing boutique (she has a lot of nice affordable pieces ladies). One of the pieces that caught my eye were these yellow pants that I ended up wearing for my birthday shoot.

I consider my style simple chic. I don’t like to have a lot going on, so pairing these yellow pants with a white t-shirt from Target was easy for me. The t-shirt was on sale for $5.99 I love Target!!!!! I used my Target app to select my size and all I had to do was walk in to the customer service counter and pick it up. See I like simple.

My multi color heels are actually old and are from one of the dopest designers…. Ms. Betsey Johnson!

A year ago I would’ve had on all black. Looking dark and depressed, because I was. Yellow means happiness and optimism; it is the color of sun shining, or bright light and creativity. These pants for me aren’t just a pair of cute pants, but they represent me letting my light shine! No longer dimming my light to make others comfortable, but letting it shine so that God may be glorified!

Beyoncé “Black Is King” Premieres On Disney Plus July 31st

Beyoncé gave us Black Parade for Juneteenth and now she is about to make her Disney debut at the end of July!

Walt Disney Pictures Screen Grab

Queen Bey dropped the trailer for her 2nd visual album (Lemonade was her first) “Black Is King” inspired by her time on the Lion King set.

Walt Disney Pictures Screen Grab

Written and directed by the Queen herself, “Black Is King” will premiere globally on Disney+ on July 31, 2020, and will arrive on the heels of the one-year anniversary of the release of Disney’s “The Lion King.” (her marketing team is BOMB!)

Here’s the story, according to the film’s official synopsis:

“The voyages of Black families, throughout time, are honored in a tale about a young king’s transcendent journey through betrayal, love and self-identity. His ancestors help guide him toward his destiny, and with his father’s teachings and guidance from his childhood love, he earns the virtues needed to reclaim his home and throne. These timeless lessons are revealed and reflected through Black voices of today, now sitting in their own power. ‘Black Is King’ is an affirmation of a grand purpose, with lush visuals that celebrate Black resilience and culture. The film highlights the beauty of tradition and Black excellence.”

Harry and Meghan Have Joined Advertisers In FaceBook Boycott

Harry and Meghan are tired of Facebook allowing hate speech, bullying and misinformation to be posted to their platform, just like the rest of us.

According to sources close to the Royal couple, the Sussexes have been privately advocating for the #stophateforprofit campaign, which I first wrote about here.

Harry and Meghan

According to Axios, over the past few weeks, the couple has encouraged CEOs around the world to stand in solidarity with a coalition of civil rights groups, like the NAACP, Color of Change and the Anti-Defamation League, which began urging marketers to stop buying ads on Facebook via the Stop Hate for Campaign two weeks ago.

Verizon, Levis, Dove, Lipton, Unilever, Patagonia, The North Face, Ben & Jerry’s, Coca Cola, and the Hershey Company, have all released statements saying they would halt advertising on the social media site as part of the #StopHateForProfit campaign.

Facebook announced on Friday that they will label any post that violates its policies but that Facebook deems newsworthy enough to remain online. The company lead by Mark Zuckerberg also said they will remove all posts that incite violence or seek to suppress voters.

New Resource Guide For The Black Church Taking Action Against Racism

As our country faces both a global pandemic and racial unrest, the importance of the Black Church as a catalyst for social change has never been greater. A new guide from the Humanitarian Disaster Institute (HDI) at Wheaton College, created in partnership with Healthcare Ready and World Impact, provides a practical and Biblical resource to support the ministry of Black churches speaking and acting against racism while also protecting health.

The 16-page guide, titled The Black Church in Action Against Racism and COVID-19: A Practical and Biblical Guide to Prophetic Ministry While Protecting Health, is available to download free at:

“Faith communities desire to reflect the God of justice in this moment of racial unrest through protesting, advocacy, and civic engagement. Our prayer is that this guide enables them to engage in this important Gospel work safely,” said Theon Hill, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communication at Wheaton College and lead author on the new guide.

To encourage Black churches taking action against racism, the guide offers practical ways for leaders to respond to systemic vulnerabilities, become collective agents of change, develop productive partnerships, and not get weary in well-doing while also protecting health during COVID-19.

James Fortune Dream Again: LIVE From Rock City is a much needed CD!

The new Birmingham, AL resident, blends unique styles of music and fan favorites into one 16-track LP featuring collaborations with Isaac Carree, Zacardi CortezJalisa FayeMinon SartenTodd GalberthLisa Knowles Smith and more.

James Fortune Dream Again

Dream Again: Live from Rock City is a collection of special announcements, personalized for all who listen. The opening track will undoubtedly pull listeners up or push them forward to a place of purpose and possibility. There is a comforting and refreshing thread of hope and faith that echoes throughout this body of work which celebrates new songs and fan favorites like “I Need Your Glory” and “I Believe.” A remixed version with go-go vibes of “Favor of God” features Zacardi Cortez; the live album is lead at radio with “Nobody Like Jesus” featuring Lisa Knowles Smith.

Fortune shares, “Our dreams are our deepest desires. They motivate us, inspire us, stretch us and help us achieve any goal that we want to achieve. We have to learn to believe and position ourselves according to prayer and God’s promise.”

The new Creative Pastor at Rock City Church understands that if you’re going to preach redemption in the 21st century, you’re going to have to make a production of it, and his albums are a bit like urban gospel hip-hop soul revues, all done up in showbiz style on Broadway, complete with Fortune’s spoken, sung, and shouted encouragement. Fortune’s strength is in understanding how to put gospel and praise songs over to a young 21st century audience, and with his featured choir, FIYA (which stands for Free in Yahweh’s Abundance), he freely incorporates hip-hop arrangements and urban beats into his recordings. His recordings include: The Transformation (2007) – which featured the single “I Trust You,” charted at #1 on Gospel radio for 25 weeks and #30 on Urban AC charts.

Fortune is ready to share his story of redemption and triumph with the world and how he is finally, “dreaming again.”

Denzel Washington Recounts The Moment He Was Filled With The Holy Spirit

During an Instagram Live with his pastor friend, A.R. Bernard, on Thursday Denzel Washington recounted an experience he had with the Holy Spirit.

Denzel explained to the best selling author that he gave his life to Jesus three times and on one of those occasions he had a supernatural encounter with God.

“I was filled with the Holy Ghost and it scared me. I said, ‘Wait a minute, I didn’t want to go this deep, I want to party,’” Washington explained.

The encounter happened at Bishop Charles E. Blake’s West Angeles Church of God in Christ in the 80’s, where he still attends with his wife and children.

“I went to church with Robert Townsend and when it came time to come down to the altar I said, ‘You know this time, I’m just going to go down there and give it up and see what happens.’ I went in the prayer room and gave it up and let go and experienced something I’ve never experienced in my life,” the “Fences” actor explained. “I remember calling my mother afterwards and asking her, I said, ‘Well, you know it felt like I was going up in the air, and my cheeks were filled’ and she said, ‘Oh no, that’s the devil you’re purging.’”

“It was a supernatural, once in this lifetime experience that I couldn’t completely understand at the time.”
