The dictionary defines a mask as something that hides, conceals or covers up.
We tend to cover up or hide things that we’re ashamed of, like a loss of a job, divorce, cheating, financial problems, etc. I don’t know about you, but I’ve hidden behind a couple of these things in my life, and let me tell you hiding, concealing and covering up stuff will wear you out!
The mask is all about protecting our story, telling fiction rather than living our truth. We alter the facts, leaving out unflattering details and making ourselves more than we’re not in the storyline. Over time we convince ourselves of our own lie! And after while the mask feels more genuine than the truth.
I remember the day I got tired of hiding behind my mask, I went to the mirror in my bedroom, and looked at me and said no more! No more caring what people think, no more acting like you have it all together, no more hiding, no more lies! At that moment I made a commitment to God that I was given Him my story, and I told Him that I trusted Him with my past not to just heal from it, but to speak boldly of it whenever He called on me. Every difficult and painful event in my life I was going to use to Glorify God. I ended that mirror conversation by taking off my mask and making a commitment to being my authentic self, flaws and all.
The most profound sacrifice we can give to God is full access to our story. Every time we chose to put on a mask, we compromise God’s total access to our story. God’s love has freed us from the game of wearing a mask..He purchased our story when He died on the cross for our sins.
So, you have the same choice I had, will you put on a mask and play the games in this world or will you embrace with humility the story of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
So as you search for value, significance, meaning and love throughout your life you need look no further than the story of a Savior who died so that we may live, who knows each of our thoughts, and the number of hairs on our head. This is your story..this is your song..Tell it over and over again..sing it to your children..tell it to your friends, to the lost and lonely, whom God brings across your path…This is your life to live …with the mask off!
Talk to you soon,
