On Thursday’s episode of The Real, co-host Adrienne Bailon revealed that she will be marrying gospel singer Israel Houghton soon. During the #GirlChat segment the wife to be asked the ladies, if she should change her last name to “Houghton” after the wedding or keep hers that people have grown to know her by since her stardom.
“Now I have the opportunity to change my last name,” Bailon noted, admitting that she didn’t know whether to ditch Bailon and adopt the last name of Lakewood church’s GRAMMY® Award-winning worship leader.
“I feel like if you get married, you need to take your husband’s name,” Love, the only single lady of the panel’s foursome, answered reluctantly after being asked to weigh in.
“That’s what I feel,” the outspoken comedian continued. “That’s why you become one. You cannot keep both.”
Despite some disagreement from two very vocal wives (Mowry-Housley hyphenates her name and Mai kept her maiden name to preserve the legacy of her culture.), Love wouldn’t budge from her position. She insisted, “You guys are family and you are one. That’s what the Bible says. When two people are put together they become one.”
The audience applauded.
After a few moments of back-and-forth chit-chat, Bailon made her decision.
“My name will officially be Adrienne Houghton. God bless you,” she said definitively.
