Trailer Debut: Pray Away Netflix Documentary

No images

The upcoming Netflix documentary Pray Away about the “ex gay” movement in the church trailer has arrived!

Pray Away

The powerful trailer introduces us to the founders of Exodus International, the largest and most controversial conversion therapy organization in the world.

In the 1970s, five men struggling with being gay in their Evangelical church started a Bible study to help each other leave the “homosexual lifestyle.” They quickly received over 25,000 letters from people asking for help and Exodus International was birthed.

Julie Rodgers Cr. NETFLIX

After years of being considered “Christian Superstars,” many of these men and women have come out as LGBTQ, denying the very movement they helped start.

Focusing on the dramatic journeys of former conversion therapy leaders, current members, and a survivor, the documentary chronicles the “ex gay” movement’s rise to power, persistent influence, and the profound harm it causes.

Streaming on Netflix August 3rd.

Jennifer Hudson Talks Aretha Franklin In The August Issue Of Instyle

No images

Jennifer Hudson has started the media blitz for the RESPECT movie where she stars as the late Aretha Franklin.

Jennifer Hudson

For the August Issue of Instyle, J-Hud shared her experience sitting down with the Queen of Soul to discuss the highly anticipated film.

“I remember when we first sat down, ooh, I was terrified to be at the table,” Hudson says, laughing, reminiscing about her initial conversations with Franklin. “Aretha said, ‘What? Are you shy or something?’ I said, ‘Well, I am talking to the Queen of Soul!'”

Listen to J-Hud belt out “Talk About A Child” for the publication… The girl can just flat foot sing! ( I said that in my best CL Franklin voice).

The Respect movie hits theaters August 13th.

Gospel Singer Tamela Mann New Album “Overcomer” Dropping August 6th

No images

Award winning Gospel singer Tamela Mann is ready to help heal the world through her music!

gospel singer Tamela Mann

The award winning singer is set to release her new album Overcomer on August 6th.

There is a new sense of authority and urgency in Tamela’s music now; she has lived these songs and is ready to share the strength and purpose she has found.

Propelled by the singer’s strong, passionate vocals, and her newfound voice as a songwriter, each of the 12 tracks on Overcomer was conceived to bring healing and hope to a world resetting after a tumultuous chapter in its history. There is plenty to unpack from a lyrical standpoint, and Tamela is at the writing helm on most of the songs.

“I poured my experiences into the lyrics, putting my heart and soul into the words on this album,” Tamela says. “It’s me looking at my life and the things I was dealing with, trying to learn from those things, and doing what I can to overcome them.”

The album was executive produced by Tamela and her husband David Mann. Special guests include Kirk Franklin and Wyclef Jean on the stand-out track melding R&B, reggae, rap, and Gospel, “Hello God;” Todd Dulaney on the worshipful “Finished Work;” Travis Green, the co-writer and producer of the anthemic “Finished;” and The Fellas, on her current single, “Help Me.” “Touch From You,” the debut single from the album, added to Tamela’s bank of personal bests; the track was her seventh No. 1 on the Billboard Gospel Airplay Chart“Source” and “He Did It For Me” are two other standouts. Says Tamela of the inspiration behind the lyrics for them both:

God is the source and my go-to when I’m lost. I can’t do anything without Him, and I never want to try to.

Raise your hand if you’re like me and are ready for this album!
