A couple of weeks ago, Tina Knowles-Lawson was back home in Houston, visiting her home chuch, St. John giving total praise while listening to one of her “favorite” gospel songs.
During the worship portion of a church service held at St. John’s Houston, Knowles took a few seconds to shoot an Instagram clip of the worship band singing and playing to Richard Smallwood’s 1996 song, “Total Praise.”
“One of my favorite church songs : ‘lift Your Hands in Total Praise,’” Knowles posted along with a clip of the entire church with hands lifted in worship.
Whenever Tina is back in Houston she visits the church where she raised her superstar daughters, Solange and Beyonce, and when the family became famous, helped the church expand their outreach program, The Bread of Life.
St. John church started with 9 members. Long-time friends Tina & Mathew Knowles were some of the church’s earliest supporters. Fast forward less than twenty years later, and St. Johns, The Bread of Life is changing the landscape of Downtown Houston by providing 9 tons of fresh food weekly to hungry families, 12,000 hot meals monthly and nightly housing to hundreds of chronically homeless men and women. The church also developed the Temenos Community Development Corporation and thanks to a generous donation from Tina & Mathew, and their daughters Beyoncé and Solange, the $7 million Knowles-Temenos Place Apartments opened in 2009, providing 43 formerly homeless residents a permanent-supportive apartment to take significant steps in improving their lives.
