Danielle Brooks is convincing as the legendary Mahalia Jackson in the Lifetime original movie Robin Roberts Presents Mahalia!

Robin Roberts presents Mahalia

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting on this movie since it was announced last year that my girl Danielle Brooks would be portraying Mahalia.

Dear Lord, your gift wasn’t my voice. It was my purpose.

I knew that Brooks who grew up in a Christian home(her father was a deacon and her mother a minister) would nail this role.

Robin Roberts presents Mahalia

Born in New Orleans, Mahalia began singing at an early age and went on to become one of the most revered gospel figures in U.S. history, melding her music with the civil rights movement. Her recording of the song “Move on Up a Little Higher” sold millions of copies, skyrocketing her to international fame and gave her the opportunity to perform at diverse settings including in front of a racially integrated audience at the prestigious Carnegie Hall and at John F. Kennedy’s inaugural ball. An active supporter of the Civil Rights Movement, Jackson sang at numerous rallies, including the March on Washington in 1963 alongside Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in hopes that her music would encourage and inspire racial equality.

Premiering April 3rd on Lifetime, Mahalia is executive produced by GMA’s Robin Roberts and Linda Berman.

Netflix’s YES DAY: Say YES To These Cool Family Activity Idea’s

No images

The highly anticipated Jennifer Garner family movie Netflix’s YES DAY started streaming Friday.

The movie at it’s core is all about enjoying one of the priceless gifts God gave us….FAMILY!

 netflix's YES DAY

As a mother when my children were young it was all about NO NO NO! I stayed stressed out trying to balance raising kids and building a career. In the movie Garner and her husband take advice from a dad who shared with them that he stays stress free by giving his kids a YES DAY every month. It’s a time where no matter what your kids ask for as a parent you say yes. (inserts the REALLY emoji)

With another pandemic spring break upon us, I thought I’d share a “YES DAY” family activity book to give you a couple of ways you can challenge your family to a fun day of activities just like in the movie:

1. Make new memories by recreating old family photos.

2. Make a time capsule

3. Let’s get moving: Go walking together on a nature trail. This is something my daughter and I enjoy doing together. It gives us time to talk about what’s been going on in her life etc….

Have an awesome spring break and don’t forget to watch “YES DAY” on Netflix…Oooh and don’t forget to tag me on social media, I would love to see your family activity idea’s.

Amazon Studios has released the first trailer for the thriller, which stars Michael B. Jordan as a NAVY Seal swept up in an international conspiracy while seeking justice for the murder of his pregnant wife (played by Lauren London). When a squad of Russian soldiers kills his family in retaliation for his role in a top-secret op, Sr. Chief John Kelly pursues the assassins at all costs. Joining forces with a fellow SEAL (Jodie Turner-Smith) and a shadowy CIA agent (Jamie Bell), Kelly’s mission unwittingly exposes a covert plot that threatens to engulf the U.S. and Russia in an all-out war. Torn between personal honor and loyalty to his country, Kelly must fight his enemies without remorse if he hopes to avert disaster and reveal the powerful figures behind the conspiracy.

Coming to Prime Video on April 30th.

Sweet Home Alabama: My Go To Valentine’s Day Movie

Sweet Home Alabama starring my girl Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas is still my go to Valentine’s Day Rom-com.

Sweet Home Alabama
Touchstone Pictures

It came out back in 2002, and centers around Melanie (Witherspoon) who leaves her country town right after high school for the big city to follow her dreams of becoming a fashion designer. While living in New York she meets and falls in love with the cities most eligible bachelor(Patrick Dempsey). He surprises her one evening by closing down the Tiffany store to propose to her (he literally tells her to pick out any ring she wants).

Anyway she says yes, but………… she’s still married to the guy from back home, who was the star player of their high school football team. So back to Alabama she goes… with the plan of getting her estranged husband (Josh Lucas) to sign the divorce papers but soon realizes she gave her heart away to him back in high school and never got it back.

You can take the girl out of the south, but you can’t take the south out of the girl.

So today as we celebrate another Valentine’s Day, with my Starbucks in hand, and fluffy socks on my feet I’m watching Sweet Home Alabama.
