Tiffany Haddish is set to portray the fastest woman in the world in an upcoming biopic.

Florence Griffith Joyner aka Flo Jo was all things track and field in the 80’s and an Olympic champion. She never mounted the starting blocks without her long nails and one legged tights. As a young girl who ran track, I was here for it!

Haddish, who said that the Olympic champion was her SHEro growing up will also produce the film.

I am looking forward to telling Flo-Jo’s story the way it should be told,” said Haddish. My goal with this film is making sure that younger generations know my ‘she-ro’ Flo-Jo, the fastest woman in the world to this day, existed.

Many of the records that Flo-Jo set in the 1988 Olympics, including those in the 100 m and 200 m, have yet to be broken.

Florence Griffith Joyner died in 1998 at the age of 38 of an epileptic seizure.

Sisters On Track: A Netflix Documentary

Being a Black girl who use to run track, I’m pretty excited to watch the Netflix documentary Sisters On Track.

Sisters On Track

The documentary follows three determined sisters in Brooklyn as they race against all odds on a journey toward hope, belonging and a brighter future.

Running saved them.

Sisters/athletes Tai, Rainn, and Brooke Sheppard, excelled on their track and field team while living in a homeless shelter with their single mother, Tonia.

The sisters were propelled into the national spotlight in 2016 with their first-time wins at the Junior Olympics. The resulting media storm landed the girls on the cover of Sports Illustrated Kids as “SportsKids of the Year” giving them the resources to move into their own home. The film offers a rare intimate glimpse into a tight-knit Brooklyn family’s journey to recover from trauma and tragedy. With the support of their mother, Tonia Handy, and the guidance of coach Jean Bell, the Sheppard sisters aim to beat the odds, dream big and aspire to higher education as they are finding their voices as athletes and students – all while processing the growing pains of adolescence. At the heart of the story is the bond between sisters and an entire community of women, passing the baton of self-empowerment and hope through track and field, from one generation to another.

Can we say Yes Girls Yes!!!!!

The documentary premieres June 24th on the streaming service.

Courageous! Naomi Osaka Withdraws From French Open

What tennis player Naomi Osaka did on Monday morning was brave and I applaud her!

Naomi Osaka

The reigning U.S. Open champion announced that she was withdrawing from the already in progress French Open.

It all stems from her decision to opt out of the tournament’s “mandatory” media interviews, citing mental health concerns, including a history of depression. She hoped that any fines issued would go toward mental health awareness. And, indeed, fines were issued: Osaka was penalized $15,000. If that wasn’t enough, tournament organizers threatened to expel her from the tournament if she kept it up……So, she chose herself over tennis…and I don’t blame her!

Naomi Osaka

In a social media post, Osaka revealed that she’s been battling depression since winning her first major at the 2018 US Open. She also revealed that she’s an introvert, and wearing headphones at tournaments have helped with her social anxiety.

She’s also hoping she could have a conversation with officials from the WTA upon her return.

“I really want to work with the Tour to discuss ways we can make things better for the players, press and fans,” she wrote.

We don’t have to wait much longer to watch the 3rd season of Virgin River on Netflix.

3rd season of Virgin River

Over the Memorial Day weekend the cast announced on Instagram that the hit drama will return on July 9th.

I became addicted to this show during the pandemic. Like most people who watch the show, I am praying that Jack and Melinda end up together.

The series is centered around Melinda, a nurse practitioner who relocates from LA to the small town after the death of her husband.

Not only does Melinda fall in love with the town, but she falls for Jack too. The problem is she’s scared to love again and he has a baby on the way by another woman.

According to reports, the upcoming season storyline includes a funeral, a fire, a divorce, a hurricane, and a new romance.

I’ll be tuned in…

Jamie Foxx Daughter Corinne Shares Battle With Anxiety Disorder

It’s already hard to live up to the hype of being the child of a celebrity, then add an anxiety disorder to that……life could become a little stressful.

jamie foxx daughter

Jamie Foxx daughter Corinne has had to live through that and is using Mental Health Awareness month to share her story.

“I felt like people were always looking at me, were always expecting me to turn out a certain way. Because of that, I went the opposite realm,” Corinne shared with ET. “I became very focused on perfection and always being in this very cookie cutter type of way, and that put a lot of pressure and anxiety on me to uphold this standard of never messing up. That definitely affected my mental health, and I’m still working through to unlearn those behaviors and those patterns and giving myself the grace to just be a human.”

Corinne went on to share that she’s no longer focused on “perfection,” realizing that she is loved and valued just the way she is…flaws and all.

“My confidence used to come from being perfect and always put together and then [I realized], wait, I am loved and I am valued even if I’m not all put together, even with the messiness of life,” she says. “I think that gave me a lot of confidence because now I believe in myself in all realms, even on the days that I’m having good days and even on the days I’m having bad days. So, I think talking about your mental health is not a weakness. It’s a sign of strength because so many people are afraid to do it… that shows that you’re emotionally aware enough to ask for that help.”
