Simone Smith is celebrating Black love and she’s rallied some of her famous sistas to join in.
Smith has teamed up with Color of Change for the “Black Love” jewelry collection.
The pieces center around a Black fist motif, in a campaign inspired by velvet paintings that decorated the walls of Smith’s childhood home.
“The fist symbolizes freedom, unity, and self-love,” Smith who is married to LL Cool J told Oprah Daily. “The Black Love collection is so important to me because it represents the beauty of Black culture and our powerful future. It represents being proud of who you are. My sisters in the campaign all represent Black love to me. They are truly unique, joyous, vibrant bosses who embody the beauty of being Black and loving the skin they’re in.”
10 percent of the proceeds will be donated to Color Of Change, a non-profit civil rights organization.
“Color Of Change demands justice for Black communities, which includes protecting Black people’s businesses, art, love and joy. This is why I named the collection Black Love, she shared.
Mz. Gossip Girl aka Nina Parker understands what it means when folks say representation matters!
After years of struggling to find appealing plus size gowns for the red carpet, the former E! host decided to design her own. Kinda like if they don’t give you a seat at the table..you create your own table!
Plus-size women are often taught to hide themselves. This collection is meant to make them stand apart and be proud of who they are.
Parker started working on the collection in December 2019. The debut collection offers bodysuits, dresses, skirts, tops and jeans and incorporates design elements like zippers, power mesh and stretchy fabric that allows for comfortable and flattering wear.
In addition to the pieces made with stretchy and comfortable fabrics, the collection includes a graffiti-style printed dress that features words of affirmation, such as “Queen,” “Love,” “Hustle” and “Hope.”
The red carpet correspondent has become the first Black woman to create a plus size only brand within the Macy’s franchise.
Sweaty Betty and rē•spin by Halle Berry have teamed up to launch an activewear collection.
Berry had been teasing that she was “working on something” through her social media accounts and now we know what it is.
I’m excited to launch my first activewear collection in collaboration with Sweaty Betty,” says Halle Berry. “Sweaty Betty was the first brand that came to mind—they know how to make technical activewear that not only looks great, but also truly performs. I love their mission to inspire and empower women to live an active life, as well as the value they place in community—a mission we share at rē•spin. I’ve worn the Power Legging for years, so it was an amazing experience to design my own version, named after one of my most iconic roles: Storm. I worked closely with Sweaty Betty’s design team, entirely over Zoom, to make my vision of this collection come to life. I’m so proud of what we’ve created. It’s truly a reflection of my lifestyle and features pieces that can take you from studio to street—and beyond.
Global fitness and lifestyle brand Sweaty Betty announced Monday its first major US product collaboration with the Hollywood icon and her wellness brand. Inspired by boxing and Japanese jiu-jitsu, The rē•spin Edit is a limited edition twenty-two piece collection that features a mix of technical and lifestyle pieces for the woman who does it all. Each piece is reflective of the actress personal style and offers wearers a flattering fit while retaining its fashion appeal; highlighting the multifaceted yet practical appeal seen throughout.
The collection will be available from May 18th on www.sweatybetty.com through select retail partners worldwide, with the second drop coming in October 2021.
Yara Shahidi Adidas capsule collection just launched and it’s everything the culture needed.
The Grown-ish actress and activist has teamed with Adidas for her very own five-piece collection that celebrates her Black and Iranian roots. Along with a pair of classic Superstar sneakers, the line offers two jackets and coordinating track pants. Paying homage to the activists and artists who have shaped Shahidi’s own worldview, the styles feature intricate detailing such as embroidered Farsi script, global colorways, and 1960s-inspired silhouettes.
“My first instinct was how do we honor the past in a way that also pays homage to the future,” Shahidi told Bazaar.com. “The one thing that I wanted people to take away was even though a lot of these details are specific to my own growing up and the things that impacted me, the entire campaign is about how we re-create our heritage. I’m constantly figuring out what it means to me to be Black and Iranian—it’s ever changing.”
Elisa Johnson has turned her passion for sunglasses into a business.
The Fashion Institute of Technology graduate and daughter of Magic and Cookie Johnson just launched a five-piece line of sunglasses.
“I wanted to make sure that I hit all different types of people and I wanted to make sure that everybody could wear them,” she shared with NYLON. “There is a style for everyone in the collection, basically.”
The collection is inspired by Elisa’s personal point of view, as a born and bred LA Girl turned NYC Fashion Woman. Each design reflects her style, a juxtaposition of classic and current, luxury and street. Her designs break the rules, push boundaries, and elevate the look of anyone who dons them, according to the website.
