Alicia Keys did not come to play when she kicked off the 2020 NFL season by singing “Lift Every Voice & Sing”
Alicia wore a black and white cycling short set from Balmain’s resort 2021 collection. She was styled by Jason Bolden co-founder of JSN Studio.
Olivier Rousteing who produced the collection while in quarantine, told WWD that the new collection is steeped in Nineties pop-culture references like “Pretty Woman,” and Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Keys revealed her reasoning for performing for the NFL despite racial issues in the league recently. The performance tied into an announcement that the league will be contributing to a new $1 billion endowment fund aimed at supporting Black businesses and communities.
“We are already seeing the blatant injustices that are going on around us,” Keys told Billboard. “As an artist, I’m always thinking about how can I use my platform to further racial equity. This fund is one of the answers and our goal is to empower Black America through investing in Black businesses, Black investors, institutions, entrepreneurs, schools and banks in a way to create sustainable solutions.”
