Hattie McDaniel paved the way for other African American women receiving an Oscar.

And now we will get to see her story through a biopic that is being produced by Alysia Allen and Aaron Magnani according to Variety.

Alysia Allen has obtained the film rights to author Jill Watts’ biography, “Hattie McDaniel: Black Ambition, White Hollywood,” and will produce with Magnani, whose credits include “The Last Word.”

In 1939, Hattie McDaniel received an Oscar for best supporting actress, for her role as Mammy in Gone with the Wind.

She was the daughter of freed slaves, an acclaimed vaudeville performer and one of the first black women on the radio.
