Issa Rae talks about the return of Insecure on HBO Sunday, April 12th in the latest Issue of Teen Vogue.
Fans of the show are excited about it’s return and to see what their favorite characters have been up to. I. It’s been gone way too long.
Insecure’s extended hiatus was crucial not just for her own development but for the show’s sake. Issa felt like the fun of making the show had collapsed under the weight of expectations. “Insecure takes nine months out of my life. I’m pulling from life experience, and if you’re not living, then what are you really making? It’s a dream to be able to make this show, but I want to make sure that the show is also good,” she shared. “We needed a pause. Coming back, we just felt so fresh and excited to be there, and it showed. It felt like fun again.”
“I love this season so much,” Issa also shared with the publication. “Season three we always knew was the building season. In the [writer’s room], we were always like, ‘Ooh, season four going to be lit!’ [This season is] just about asking the question: Are people in your life for a reason or a season?”
