Kate Spade family has released a statement after the fashion designer was found hanging from a scarf in her NY apartment Tuesday morning.
“We are all devastated by today’s tragedy. We loved Kate dearly and will miss her terribly. We would ask that our privacy be respected as we grieve during this very difficult time,” the statement read via The New York Times.
The police said that Kate, was discovered unresponsive at her Manhattan apartment, where she had hanged herself in her bedroom. The police chief of detectives, Dermot F. Shea, said that the death “appears at this point in time to be a tragic case of apparent suicide,” he said. “It is early in the investigation.”
The suicide note that was found had messages for both her husband Andy and daughter. The AP reported that the note explained to her 13 yr. old daughter, Frances that the suicide wasn’t her fault.
Kate Spade was born, Katherine Noel Brosnahan, in Kansas City, Mo., on December 24, 1962.
