A couple months ago it was announced that DeVon Franklin was helping Kirk Franklin bring his real life story to the big screen.
Well, backstage after the Dove Awards on last week in Nashville, Kirk revealed that it’s going to be a story of redemption, and called it a cross between 8 Mile and Purple Rain.
“It’s going to be real,” Franklin said. “It’s going to be a gully film. It won’t be choir robes and prayer hands. There is redemption, but my journey was ugly, and I made a lot of mistakes.”
Kirk also shared that it’s important for “kids that look like me and how God’s grace can be transformative.”
The film not yet titled will follow Kirk from his humble beginnings through his meteoric rise to fame as he changes the face of gospel music and battles his demons in the process.
