Pastor CJ Rhodes of Mt. Helm M.B. Church in Jackson, Mississippi has released a thought provoking new book.

“Deeper Still” is a book for those of us who grew up in the traditional Baptist church and still consider ourselves Baptist, but with gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Having those gifts, like speaking in unknown tongues, left many of us feeling like we didn’t belong, confused, or even in exile, because of the way the Baptist church frowned upon gifts like laying hands or speaking in tongues. Pastor Rhodes wrote this book for us, using his own story to let us know that we’re not alone.
He also discusses how some of history’s greatest leaders, such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. had to learn how to tap into the gifts when their journey became difficult.
I interviewed Pastor CJ, who I like to call the “Modern Day King,” over Zoom Thursday afternoon to discuss his new book as well as Social Justice and the Black Church. Check it out below.
