FLOTUS Michelle Obama and President Barack Obama are just months away from leaving the White House after eight years. So before they walk out those famed front doors for the last time, one of the most fashion-forward and social media-savvy couples in White House history is trying to make history in another way, by covering not one but two major magazines’ October issues — together on the cover of Essence and Michelle solo on the cover of InStyle
The First Couple covers the October 2016 collector’s edition of Essence. Cover writer Laurn Willams said First Lady Obama asked for Lemonade by Beyonce to be played while they did their photo shoot.
For the Instyle cover that the First Lady did alone, she talks about keeping her style low key when she is not making appearances.
The First Lady says her off-duty style is “Very casual. No makeup, no T-shirt, and a pair of ripped jean shorts or workout pants because I’m always on the verge of going to or coming from [working out]. I love color and pieces that make me feel good, but it’s much more informal.”
Flotus also revealed that she doesn’t keep up with the latest styles as folks may think.
“I tend not to worry about the trends, because what works for an 18-year-old selfie queen may not for a 52-year-old First Lady who is a mom of teenagers she is trying to be a good role model for,” she tells InStyle about her sartorial choices.
