On a day that honors mothers in society, President Barack Obama made a heartfelt tribute to the ladies in his life and moms everywhere.
In a message posted to Facebook, The President shared two photos from his family album to honor his mother and First Lady, Michelle Obama.
‘To all the moms out there, Happy Mother’s Day! I will always be grateful to my mom for instilling in me a sense that I could do anything if I worked for it – even become the President of the United States.
‘Doing right by our kids is the most important work there is. That’s why I want to take a little extra time to say thank you to Michelle and to her mother for the extraordinary and selfless way they have raised, looked after, and loved our girls.’
The President went on to say that he’s lucky to have been ‘surrounded by such remarkable women’.
And he encouraged others to show their thanks, love and appreciation for their mothers throughout the year.
‘To whomever that person is in your life, be sure to say thanks. Say I love you. And let’s make sure that we show gratitude and appreciation throughout the year.
‘Because no one deserves thanks more than our moms.’
President Obama continued to encourage everyone to appreciate their mothers.
As he reflected on his own mother, he said ‘take a moment to remember the moms who raised us, whose big hearts sustained us and whom we miss everyday no matter how old we get’.
‘Let’s give mothers the respect they deserve. Give all women the equality they deserve. And give all parents the support they need in their most important roles.
