If you love a good sports or inspirational movie then The Way Back starring Ben Affleck is a must see this weekend!

Before I dive into what the film is about, let me say that I haven’t seen Affleck on the big screen in a minute… but this is probably one of his best acting gigs ever!!!

Affleck stars as Jack Cunningham, a guy full of heartache after suffering a major loss and losing his marriage. Alcohol becomes his coping mechanism.
“I spent a lot of time hurting myself, trying to hurt my father.”
He once had a life full of promise, but now he’s a functioning alcoholic in denial. Thank God for his loving support system, like his sister who gives him words of wisdom in the film:
“We can’t change the past, Jack. What we can do is choose how we move forward.”

He has his road to redemption moment when he is asked to coach his Alma Mater Bishop Hayes High School basketball team…. a team who hasn’t won since he was the star 25 years ago. Father Edward Devine (John Aylward) reaches out to Cunningham, who reluctantly takes the job and starts to find a purpose outside of drinking and not only change the teams life for the better, but his too!

This is a feel good movie of healing and restoration…something that we all can use right now!
