Simone Biles not surprised by Gabby Douglas tweet, and shows support for Aly Raisman.
Gymnastics star Gabby Douglas slammed fellow Olympian Aly Raisman on Friday for dressing in a “provocative/sexual way” after Raisman accused her former gymnastics team doctor of sexual assault.
In Aly’s forthcoming book Fierce, she details that Team USA doctor, Larry Nassar abused her sexually for a long time.
” It was different with Larry. I would lie on the table, my hands involuntarily balling themselves into fists as his ungloved hands worked their way under my clothing. ‘Treatment sessions’ with him always made me feel tense and uncomfortable.”
“I would grit my teeth,” Raisman wrote, per People, “trying to convince myself that all this was part of the healing process. The truth was he never made my injuries feel any better, but I always obeyed because he had a reputation for being the best doctor.”
Then on Friday, Gabby Douglas responded to a tweet from Aly after she shared she had been victim shamed for sharing what happened to her because she had once done a “sexy photoshoot.”
“Just to be clear,” Raisman tweeted on Friday. “Just because a woman does a sexy photoshoot or wears a sexy outfit does not give a man the right to shame her or not believe her when she comes forward about sexual abuse.”
Then tweeted Gabby Douglas
“It is our responsibility as women to dress modestly and be classy,” Douglas wrote in a tweet that has since been deleted. “Dressing in a provocative/sexual way entices the wrong crowd.”
In comes Olympic teammate, Simone Biles.
“Shocks me that I’m seeing this but it doesn’t surprise me… honestly seeing this brings me to tears bc as your teammate I expected more from you & to support her. I support you Aly & all the other women out there! STAY STRONG.”
Gabby then tried to “fix” it
“I didn’t correctly word my reply & i am deeply sorry for coming off like i don’t stand alongside my teammates. regardless of what you wear, abuse under any circumstance is never acceptable. i am WITH you.
