Political superstar Symone Sanders whom most of us met in 2016 when she worked for Senator Bernie Sanders or recently when she jumped on stage to protect former VP Joe Biden from hecklers talks with Vogue magazine about criticism she’s faced and why she made the choice to work for the former VP vs Bernie.
Because she doesn’t “look” like what folks feel like a politico should look like, she’s been treated differently:
“I’ve gone on television and I felt like the reporters and folks treat me differently than they would treat another senior advisor,” she shared in the publication. “People, they see me and I look different, right? I’m bald. I have the nails. I don’t sound like what people expect from a political operative on TV.”
She was called an opportunist for going to work for former VP Joe Biden vs working for Bernie, whom she worked for during his 2016 Presidential bid:
“My politics are not tied to a person,” she says. “They are part of my values. And I know some people won’t understand the choices that I have made. But I can work for Joe Biden, I can work for Bernie Sanders, and still sleep soundly at night.”
Oh yea, her first book ‘No, You Shut Up’ hits shelves May 2020! It was inspired by a tense debate with acting deputy of Homeland Security Ken Cuccinelli following the 2017 Charlottesville violence, Cuccinelli stammered at her, “Will you just shut up for a minute?” At which point both Sanders and CNN host Chris Cuomo told him he could not speak to her that way.
