Super producer Timbaland would lean heavily on his spirituality during his fight to get clean and healthy; mentally and physically.
In the latest issue of Men’s Health, the producer talks about the steps he took to get his life back on track after IRS problems, a messy divorce, obesity, and drug addiction.
“I had a dream that death was near, I saw myself with a white face.”
First he moved from a 14,000-square-foot mansion outside Miami to a 2,500-square-foot condo downtown. “I had to downsize, get all that superstar stuff out of the way,” he says. He settled with the IRS. Then he worked to settle with his ex-wife. “The divorce at the beginning was very messy, but now we are good friends.”
Then it was time to deal with his addiction, and he decided to quit all by himself. “Just me and God,” he says, adding that there was no other option. “This was the path chosen for me. God was rebuilding my character.” he shared with the publication.
“God has me under construction.”
Next it was time for him to deal with his physical fitness. Late nights in the studio, bad eating habits and his pill addiction had him putting on weight and he also developed pre-diabetes . He credits his girlfriend Michelle Dennis with finding a gym for him to kick start his workout. His diet consist of chicken, salmon, vegetables. Three and a half liters of water a day…and no processed foods. Get this, his only cheat is a weekend glass of red wine!
“God has me under construction, which I’m still under,” he shared. “I don’t feel like I’m complete. I don’t want to ever feel like I’m complete, ’cause my mind would probably get idle. God needed me to be clear so I could see what is needed, not what I want.”
