Pharrell Williams, who composed the music for the highly anticipated film Hidden Figures recently participated in a roundtable with songwriters, where he discussed the ultimate #BlackGirlsRock film. During the discussion, Pharrell asked the question, “what would the world be like if it was run by mostly women”…. He went on to say that he see’s nothing wrong with us having a shot at seeing what that looks like. Pharrell also discusses the song “I See A Victory” from the film, which features gospel powerhouse, Kim Burrell.
For the music producer, highlighting the three mathematicians’ historical achievements in “Hidden Figures” is long overdue.
“This is a story that’s been around this entire time,” he said. “These women were victims of error and circumstance. We look back in history and women’s contribution to any kind of advancement was always discounted, dismissed, or overlooked ,erased, not acknowledged.”
Pharrell believes “Hidden Figures” will help change the mind of not only America but the world.
“We can no longer deny that women are treated the way that they are. And I think that this film will be one of many instrumental tools to change not only America’s mind, but the world’s mind.”
